The General Service Store and Warehouse
exists to provide a means of purchasing in bulk and storing
commonly used items such as paper products, cleaning
supplies, and clinical disposables in quantities large
enough to obtain discounts which are greater than those
ordinarily available on state contract.

The warehouse handles a variety of
products for various departments, which provide centralized
services to the LSU Health Sciences Center. The warehouse
helps drive down prices in several other Auxiliary sections
such as Medical Center Stores, Campus Office Stores, and
Duplicating and Printing by purchasing discounted truck load
quantities of heavily used supplies such as gloves and paper
to name two examples. The warehouse also has been a means
for Physical Plant to cut costs and better manage the
procurement of cleaning supplies and common maintenance
materials such as light bulbs and ceiling tiles. The Dental
Clinics and the Animal Care Department have also taken
advantage the warehouse to bulk purchase commonly used
materials thereby cutting costs. The warehouse also rents
storage cages and provides general storage space on a
monthly fee basis to any department that needs additional
storage space.
